Situation Reports
Turn risk into resilience. Prewave Situation Reports provide timely insights into critical global events affecting supply chains. When a typhoon closes a port, a tariff lands or an export control changes, our risk analysts publish while the situation is still developing. You’ll learn what has been confirmed, what remains unclear, how the disruption compares to previous ones, and the indicators worth watching next.

Houthi Control of Bab al-Mandab
Between 3 and 11 September, Houthi forces took Yemen's entire Red Sea coastline. They captured the port city of Mocha on 10 September, then Dhubab, Mayyun (Perim) Island, and the Greater and Lesser Hanish islands on 11 September. Mayyun sits in the middle of the Bab al-Mandab and divides the strait into its two navigable channels.
Yemen's internationally recognised government confirmed that everything it held on the western coast has fallen, and the UN special envoy called it the end of four years of relative calm.
This Prewave Situation Report sets out how the crisis developed from the collapse of the Yemen truce in July to the fall of the islands, examines what it means that both gates of the Arabian Peninsula are now contested at once, and identifies the flows most exposed, from crude and diesel to sulphur, helium and gum arabic.
